The Guardians (Russian: Защитники, Romanized: Zaschitniki or Zashchitniki) is a 2017 Russian superhero film.
The film tells the story of a group of Soviet superheroes created during the Cold War. The team includes representatives of various nationalities of the USSR. The superpower of each hero reflects the strength and tradition of the people of the USSR.
Parents received a sharply negative reception in the Russian media, [2] which many consider being one of the worst films ever made. It debuted at the top of the Russian box office, but its obesity plummeted, [3] and the Guardians is considered a box office bomb.
The film was released in the United States with an English dub shoot! Factory on 5 December 2017.
During the Cold War, a secret organization called the "Patriots" brought together a group of Soviet superheroes, changing and amplifying the DNA of many select individuals across the territory of the former state, to protect the motherland from the superhuman threat. The party includes representatives of various nationalities of the Soviet Union. Arsene, codenamed Areas, could transform into a giant, incredibly powerful bear-man. Temirkhan, code-named Khan, wields a pair of ultra-fast and a pair of curved swords. Lernik, codenamed Ler, has the power to control the earth and rocks. Eventually, Xenia may disappear underwater.
The program succeeds where a second program called Module-1 fails. This persuaded Professor Augustus Kuratov (Stanislav Shirin), the creator of Module-1, to flee to a remote desert away from the Soviet authorities to continue his experiments. When the military was called in to arrest him, he bombed the Patriot Laboratory because he was covered in some chemicals. He rebuilt his damaged body and turned himself into a cyborg. This gave him the ability to make power and control machines. He also created an army of his own clones and set out to prove to the world that he was a genius. After the explosion, Areas, Lar, Khan and Xenia go into hiding year after year.
Nowadays, several walking robots used in a training exercise turn against their supervising officers and kill them. It held a meeting chaired by the Ministry of Defense and decided to revive the patriotic organization led by Major Elena Larina and identify their lost super agents. He sees that Lar is spending time meditating in the Khor Virap monastery in Armenia; Khan living on the steps of Kazakhstan; Areas in a remote cabin on the Puturana Plateau in northern Siberia; And Zenia is stunting in a circus in Moscow. Their first task was to raid Kuratov's laboratory in an old factory, but they were taken, prisoner.
Kurchatov offers his parents a chance to join him, but they refuse. This makes him angry and he traps the three of them in a magnetic force field and injures Lar. He later visited a military base in Noginsk and took control of tanks and other vehicles stationed there. Using them, he launched the Moscow invasion and prepared to use the Ostankino Tower and the Federation Tower for his Module-2 project. He wanted to send a signal via an old Soviet satellite, which would then be sent to every other satellite orbiting the earth and use to take control of all the technology in the world. He uses a force field to defend his Beacon tower and destroys several jet fighters sent to stop him. When an ally of the Russian military, Major-General Nikolai Dolgov, asked Kuratov for a reward for his help, Kuratov suffocated and killed him.
As Lar recovers, he reflects on the fact that his superhuman ability prevents him from aging naturally. He lived to the same age when his wife and grandchildren grew up and died. Later, Major Elena freed the other members of the group from Kuratov's laboratory. He sent Kuratov's former rival to study one of Kuratov's clones. Unfortunately, the real Kuratov released poison gas to kill him. Arceus and other guardians are trained to facilitate the patriots and are given suits and weapons.
The Guardians go to Moscow: Zenia and Areas advance through the streets, Lar defeats several soldiers patrolling in an underground car park, and Khan uses a plane to try to fly over Kuratov's Force Field. The three guardians enter a shopping mall and begin to cross an iron bar attached to the tower-beacon, but Kuratov's soldiers shoot at another pipe. Khan jumps from a plane swinging in a grapple line to tear the pipe to pieces, causing Kuratov's troops to fall.
When other parents try to figure out a way to destroy Kuratov's beacon power source, Xenia grabs the power source to short circuit. He was injured but it temporarily disabled Beacon's transmission, causing the force field to collapse. The Guardians fight Kuratov again on the platform at the top of the tower but fail to defeat him. Khan uses his super-speed to tie all the guardians with a rope and attach them to a plane to escape. Kurchatov interfered with the control of the plane, but Khan cut the rope and they fell into a river before the plane crashed.
As soon as they get out of the river, they consider going back to Kuratov's beacon to destroy it and kill Kuratov, but Major Elena comes and tells them not to. He tells them that as superhumans, they can collect their energy and release it as an explosion, but doing so can be fatal. The Guardians touch each other and explode, a lot of Genki-price.
